Paolo e Noemia d'Amico

With backgrounds in wine and fashion and a shared love of art Paolo and Noemia have created one of Italy’s more distinctive wine estates in the lush, verdant rolling hills of Vaiano in the heart of the Tuscia region. D’Amico is located high amongst the ‘Calanchi’ now a UNESCO protected area in the Tiber valley bordering Umbria, Lazio and Southern Tuscany. This striking terrain has developed after a long period of volcanic activity and soil erosion. Everything about the D’Amico Estate is unique. The underground cellars with their immense arches were created by the famous architect Luca Brasini and are built on the site of the original Etruscan cellars from the local volcanic Tufo stone. Classical music is played to the wine while it rests in oak barrels and the pillars act as an extensive library too! The Estate also houses a striking ‘hanging’ garden populated with works from celebrated sculptors such as Anish Kapoor as well as a medieval tower complete with its own chapel. Winemaker Guillaume Gelly oversees both growth and production at the 90 hectare estate, with 21 hectares planted primarily on the Calanchi themselves.
