The cooperative Union Vinicole des Coteaux de Bethon (UVCB), situated 15km from the town of Sézanne, was founded in 1967 by Monsieur Gilbert Gruet. Gilbert originally sold Champagne under his G.Gruet & Fils label but in 1967, brought together a group of enthusiatic growers enabling him to have access to larger volumes, and subsequently greater sales opportunities. Starting with 30 partners, the co-operative has grown steadily and today boasts an impressive 98 growers.
The soil in Bethon is chalky, allowing traditional Champagne Vines to thrive. Approximately 80% of the total production of the co- operative is Chardonnay.
